Artist's Statement
I’ve been telling stories for longer than I can remember. Even before I knew how to write, I would draw pictures, and as I drew, I narrated the story that went with them. The narrative thread in my work continues to this day, whether I’m telling my own story or someone else’s.
I prefer to work in drawing and painting, simply because I enjoy the expressive qualities I can achieve with line and color. Recently, I have developed a serious interest in bookmaking, and I continue to explore the exciting possibilities offered by this medium.
Much of my work is autobiographical in some way. My pieces almost always begin with a memory — an event, an emotion, an image — which I distill to its essence and then transform into art.
